I really like this character and had a lot of fun with her. I'd love to re-do this one in color (one day when I have the time).

My Summer Reading List...

So far this Summer I have been finding myself catching up on a lot of reading. So far I have read:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's not easy trying to catch up to Ayla but I finally read the first book. To be honest, the movie wasn't that bad and was pretty faithful to the source material. All those little neo-gothic chickies who didn't like the movie because of "very, very small" issues need to shut up and just enjoy the movies as completley seperate mediums. Comic book fans have had to come to that realization hundreds of times over.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Book Five The Last Olympian. I had read the first two books in the series with Michael but he read ahead and finished the series and I of course had to catch up. Just this evening I saw the teaser trailer for the first file directed by Harry Potter one and two director Chris Columbus. It will be awesome. Check it out here.

Right now I am reading two books. The first is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling. Everyone in my family has read all 7 books and I am still behind and I hope to have this one finished before we see the movie this weekend. So far, all the reviews I've seen have been positive and I'm looking forward to another great film.

The second book is The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This one is like 600+ pages and I can only do a few at a time. It's very dense and not just in the page count. A great "bathroom" book.

M.I.M.E.S.... my special guest artist stint...

First off, let me say I LOVE M.I.M.E.S., the all-ages comic series created by my friends Wayne Cordova and Harold Jennett. I recently received an email from Wayne asking if I was interested in a "guest artist" stink on the second issue of M.I.M.E.S. while Harold is out of the country.

My answer. "Heck Yeah!"

I'll only be doing the art on a few pages (just black and white, Harold will still be coloring it) and I am soo jazzed to get started on it.

This is Flex. The main villain of the story, my interpretation at least, he he he.

The more I think back, in 1998 I had sooo many ideas running around in my head, nothing ever got finished. I came up with ideas every day (almost) and some made it to paper but that was it.

This is one of those ideas. It was like beauty and the beast but in space with bounty hunters.

Who knows, one day I might get back to it...

I was going through some old art (some REALLY old art) and I found several that I want to scan in and keep track of somewhere...

This was one from some time in 1993.

Earlier that year, my friends and I went to a Hotel Con and met comic artist Mark Beachum.

He was fascinating to the guys and me and we loved his work... especially the ladies... um... maybe more on that later...

All four of us started copying his style and this is one of a few pieces I did that were influenced by Mark.

While I was in Miami for the Florida Super Con, lee commissioned 8 more Batman Villains... here is the Riddler.

I am currently without computer...

Well, kind of. After spending a good part of yesterday and today trying really hard to restart my computer, i finally gave up and called Dell. The bad news, my hard drive is TOAST... the good news, it's still covered under the warranty and I'm getting a new hard drive in 3-5 days.

Whooo Hooo...

now you are probably asking yourself, "if he doesn't have a computer, how is he typing this meaage now?"

Answer... the wife's computer. So, as soon as I get everthing back up and running... I will start posting some new art and tsories about my most recent Con Adventure. Till the, stay chilly.

Ok, just started doing some drawing again and here is another one for Lee... The Penguin.



The first step is the sketch. A rather rough and just a place holder for where everything should go.



The second step is light pencil. no real detail just blocking out the image.



Step three is the blacks. With these drawings I am doing a lot of black and white negatives and step four is the white outlines and shading.



Then a little gray tones... and done.

The move is ALMOST done...

Months and months ago, my daughter and I switched rooms. She took over what was my office and I moved my office into her bedroom. Last week, she asked if we could switch back. The wife was not happy about it but I was kind of expecting it... eventually. We started Friday night and finished all the big stuff this evening. Whoa.

I still have to clean out the closet but my drawing table and computer table are completely set up and her bed and dresser are all in place. I still have to go through all the CRAP in my room and organize everything else. Pictures will be coming soon.

Back to work...

Florida Super Con

Any one gonna be in Miami June 5-7? Why not stop by the Florida Super Con and see me.

I'm driving down and gonna do the show all three days. At this point, I should have my con buddy Wayne Cordova (creator and writer of M.I.M.E.S.) in tow.

I've never been to Miami and look forward to checking out this show and possibly making it one of my annual convention stops (along with Mega Con and FX Con).

OK. I took another stab at the Balcksmith and I'm like it even better. I want to do a more stylized animated style for this project and I think I'm getting closer here.

I need to do two versions of the Smith, this would be his younger version. The other would be 12-13 years later. He'd still be big and strong but maybe a little plumper. I'll take a stab at that next.

This one I nailed almost on the first try. In the opening chapter of this new story we introduce the Blacksmith.

The Smith is a very large and strong character who is also quite gentle and caring. His role is extremely important in setting up the story and the catalyst that begins our hero's journey.

I guess you can consider this a "process" piece. A new story idea I am working on starts off with a wizard character. he only appears in the first few pages of the story and I don't think he appears again but I want to get him right. The first take was... close but not enough. The second was much, much closer and the third was almost there... almost.
