Page One... step by step

Page one of my run on "Agents of C.O.L.T." from PKD Media. I'm having a ball with this project and working on trying a lot of new stuff. here's the loose pencil page. As you can see, I really don't fill in a lot of the detail until I start inking.

The next step is inking. A lot of the blacks on panel 3 and 4 were done in photoshop when I just dropped the blacks in. This saves time and some times looks better than I planned.

Then on to the "tone" stage. I'm really still just experimenting with this stuff but I like it a lot. I have to remember to also work in layers to separate the panels and not to draw directly on the original image. Live and learn.

Waiting For The Trade reviews Tales From The Cornerstone Volume One

Dave and Ang over at the Waiting For The Trade podcast did a review of Tales From The Cornerstone Volume One: The Midnight Shift. Click on the link and check out the episode and then go back and check out ALL the episodes. They do a great job reviewing trades and graphic novels (which I love) and they are a blast.

Thanks again to both of you and I can't wait to hear your review of Volume 2.

My Comic Geek Speak Super Show '08 Sketchbook... now available

Wow... it's only been what, like two months since the Comic geek Speak Super Show and I'm only NOW getting around to making my sketchbook available?? what's up with that??

Just have to credit the fact that I've been very, very busy lately. Well, here it is... My Comic Geek Speak Super Show '08 Edition of my Ink Spot Sketchbook 2008. Available now at Lulu.com for only 15.00 for the printed version or .99 for a downloadable version.

This 124 page sketchbook includes over 100 sketches and illustrations done for the Super Show and other cons and commissions. Also includes a "creator owned" section featuring characters from "Tales From The Cornerstone" and "Maids of Metal".

Check out the link (and yes, I know I misspelled "edition" on this cover image... but trust me, I corrected it on the printed version).

Cover process... (one of my new projects)

This a "cover" image I was working on for PKD Media. It features the Agents of C.O.L.T. and stars Brad and Frank from Half Hour Wasted and the Diabolical Dr. UMAK.

This was the original sketch layout.

The next step was the pencil stage. I originally drew each character separately then sized them to the appropriate height/width and then penciled them all together.

Next stage is ink. I'm not a great inker but I had fun with this one.

Then on to color, or at least as much as I was willing to do. I really suck at coloring so I just added the "red" for highlights. Special thanks to Avery Butterworth for letting me have some of his "tone" filed that I played with on this one for effects and shading. Not to bad if I say so myself.

More from the Agents of C.O.L.T. soon...
